July 2025

The Committee of the Sussex Chess League has set the date for the AGM as 22nd July 2025
St. Mary's Supporters Club - Lewes.

I shall be grateful if you would reserve the date in your diaries.

In the absence of a Secretary, I will act as Secretary for the purposes of the AGM.

Although it seems a fair few weeks off it is time to start considering proposals for the Agenda for the AGM on the 22nd July 2025.
The Agenda needs to be circulated at least two week before the meeting, so we would like any proposals for consideration at the AGM 2 weeks before that so that the committee can consider and discuss them (with the proposers), particularly if there are similar/conflicting proposals put forward.

Please take the time to discuss the AGM with your club members, among other things, the distribution list is not always up to date as clubs change officers etc.

The timeline is therefore;
Initial notice of AGM and request for proposals - 19th June 2025
Clubs submit proposals to the Committee - by 30th June 2025
Agenda circulated 8th July 2025 AGM - 22nd July 2025.
Among other things the Committee is seeking a new Secretary. Volunteers are therefore invited to contact any member of the Committee to discuss the role.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the AGM

Thanks Robert Wall

Division 1
The new Champions are Worthing. This is only the 2nd time since the league was reconstituted in 1967 that Worthing have been champions the last time being in the 2014-15 season.
The fight against relegation was extremely tight with the clear possibility that three teams could have tied on 6 match points and 17 game points.
As it turned out Eastbourne 1 and Horsham 2 sit in the relegation positions with Crowborough and Haywards Heath 1 escaping by ½ a game point and 1 game point respectively.
However its not all over yet for Eastbourne as if one of the promoted 2nd teams from Division 2 decline promotion then Eastbourne will remain in the top Division. If both decline then I 'think' Sussex University would be promoted but not sure about that.

Division 2
Bexhill 2 are Champions and East Grinstead 2 just pipped Sussex University to the second promotion spot.
Relegation positions have unfortunately been filled by Bexhill 3 and Brighton 3

Division 3
Congratulations go again to Worthing with their 2nd team this time becoming Champions just ahead of Horsham 5 who take up the promotion spot ahead of Horsham 4. There's one for the fixture secretary to sort out next season.

Division 4
Congratulations go to Brighton 4 as Champions and East Grinstead 3 as Runners-up in what turned out to be a very competitive and very strong division with a number of teams averaging a 1700+ rating.

KO Cup
Bexhill won the final 2½-1½ against the last two seasons' winners Lewes. This rounded off a good season for one of our newer teams Bexhill.

Junior Rapidplay
Just two clubs competed in this Division with EG Bookshop 2 winning by ½ a match point

5th March 2025

As we move into March and the final run-in to the End of The Season things are hotting up especially in Division 1 where just 1 point separates the top 3 teams; Brighton, East Grinstead & Worthing. Its equally tight at the other end with 4 teams within a point of each other. Crowborough having recovered from a bad start of 5 straight losses are now equal with Horsham 2 and Bexhill on 4 points with unlucky Haywards Heath on 3 points having had 3 drawn matches.

Should Bexhill 1 get relegated they are likely to be replaced by Bexhill 2 and Sussex University also look good for promotion though East Grinstead 2 might have a say about that. At the other end of Division 2 Brighton & Hove 3 are unfortunately doomed.

Horsham 5 are trailblazing their way through Division 3 well ahead of Horsham 4. Haywards Heath 3 are still awaiting their first points but still have time to recover.

Brighton & Hove 4 by my calculations will be picking up the Division 4 Trophy even if only by ½ a Game Point from East Grinstead 3.

In the Cup Lewes the holders are in the Final awaiting the winners of Bexhill vs Crowborough 2.

Competition for Individual Tankards are also crystallising with current performances conveniently shown on the LMS System
